Consecutive interpretation is the best option in a situation where the group of people and the room is small, the speaker has enough time and the event preferably doesn’t exceed more than four consecutive hours.
For this reason, consecutive interpretation is used at business meetings and negotiations, unofficial lectures, etc. to create a comfortable immediate communications atmosphere and enable the speaker to gather his thoughts from time to time.
One interpreter is usually carrying out consecutive interpretation at one time. But if the event takes longer than four hours, it would be better to engage two interpreters; it depends on the intensity of the event.
The speaker should pause after every few sentences, and definitely speak no more than 5 minutes without a pause. During this pause, the interpreter will convey the speaker’s speech to the audience not word for word, but instead focusing on the content of the speech.
